6 Tips For Staging A Home For Buyers
When you’re selling your home, it’s crucial to make it as presentable to buyers as possible.
Your goal is to allow buyers to see themselves in your home, so you don’t want to overdo your staging, and instead, keep it minimal and neutral. If you hope to sell your home faster and at your asking price, try these six tips when staging your home for buyers.
- Clean Everything
If you don’t or can’t spend too much money on staging, at the very least, make sure every surface in your house is sparkling. If your grout is discolored in the bathroom, or your floor is covered in mud, it will draw the attention of buyers away from the good stuff. If you have pets, make sure your furniture isn’t covered with hair and your house doesn’t smell like wet dog.
- Store Your Extras
Your clutter makes it harder for buyers to envision a home as their own, so put unnecessary items away, clean them out, or even consider a storage unit for the short-term. Think of it this way, you won’t want to move a lot of unused things anyway, so you’re getting a head start.
- Organize Your Closet
Closet space is a significant consideration for buyers, so chances are, yours are going to be opened and looked at. Store any clothing that is not in season or being used, and leave as much open space as possible.
- Put Your Spaces To Use
Have a spare bedroom that has become an extra storage space? Your buyers will have more trouble seeing the room as useful with your junk in it. Buy or rent cheap furniture to stage the room with a purpose, such as an extra bedroom or a home office.
- Spruce Up Outside
When buyers drive up to your house, you don’t want them to turn around immediately. Plant blooming flowers and some fresh greenery, and power wash any stains on the exterior. Make sure your lawn is nice and green, and replace any sod as needed. Keep windows cleaned and clear, and repaint – or replace – your front door to something welcoming. Any outdoor space can be staged; if you live in a condo in Los Angeles County and have a small balcony, consider a small bistro table or simple planters to make the space seem larger.
- Give Buyers Ideas
If a buyer is looking for real estate in Orange County, and your home offers a particularly attractive view, add a fire pit and some strategic landscape to show them how they too can relax and enjoy the outdoors. If you have an odd-sized space, such as under the stairs, turn it into a reading nook or fashion a simple bookcase to show buyers that it’s not wasted square footage.
